The Week In Review
Okay, this is going to be a relatively unexciting post in which I just recount the week's events, but you will read it and you will like it! Okay, first and foremost, this watermelon picture isn't even from this week. But it's one pretty watermelon that everyone should see:
So, one of the first exciting things that I did with week was to take a spinning lesson from a lovely woman that I met this summer through organizing the bike tours. Here is my very first creation, YAY!
On Thursday, I went to a talk by a Chicago economist that is not in the mold for which they are so famous. In fact, Professor Goolsbee is an adviser to the Obama campaign. He explained the whole credit crisis business. Well, not the WHOLE business, but enough to understand better. He had planned to lecture on the dissociation of middle class incomes from the GDP, which would have been more econ-y and less finance-y, and surely would have been nice. But, we was such a great speaker that all was acceptable. Also, understanding the collapse of society as we know it seems rather important.
On Friday, I went to a bar to watch the presidential candidates debate. Ugh, rowdy liberal bar crowd. I know we all dislike McCain, but I would still like to hear him talk. It is supposed to be a debate, after all. It was amazing how many cries for attention were voiced during McCain's comments.
Anyway, after that, Beth and I strolled to get food and stumbled across a super-delicious Japanese place (Masu East) that had the most wonderful vegan sushi. And seaweed salad (sea vegetable salad if you ask me).
Okay, today I went to the Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival. It was everything that I could have dreamed (minus an unlimited yarn/fiber budget)! Ladies were spinning yarn around every corner. Yarn by the mile. Soft stuff to ogle without being the weird one. And, most importantly, a suitable, pretty drop spindle. Now, I will be able to practice my spinning, become a professional and win numerous awards (they must have them for this sort of thing).
Beth and I also started watching Pushing Daisies. It is a detective/love story in the same sort of artistic realm and the movie version of James and the Giant Peach.

Knit Knacks
I have been working on my first ever lace knitting project this week, Yay! I just discovered that I messed the thing up, Boo...
So, I can't find my mistake, and apparently, when one knits lace, she is "supposed" to create "lifelines" to rip back to. I didn't know that, so I think I'll be re-knitting from zero. It's kind of a bummer, but really is just more knitting on a fun project!
