Three Experiences
Experience 1: the funny
So I'm driving home from work, listening to the radio. I have to change the station a lot because most of them are spotty through the mountains and I don't want to listen to a bunch of static (or the overplayed Foo Fighters, in the case of the mostly clear station). So, I'm flipping through my pre-sets and I end up on a news talk show. It's about the recovery effort in New Orleans, and they are going to interview a Michigander who is volunteering there. That spaked my interest, and I listened on. Well, she started talking and I barely heard a word she said because I was so focused on hearing her accent. I was shocked! I sound like that! Whoa. It was sort of strange. Don't get me wrong, I'm well aware of the fact that I have an accent; people comment on it regularly when I travel. But, I guess I just never was able to hear it for myself. Hanging out with all these Coloradans has made it possible, I guess. (Colorado is a move-to state, like CA, so there is a range of accents to hear here.) Or maybe she was from a bit farther north...
Experience 2: the new
I WENT SKIING TODAY!! I took a beginner's lesson, and I had so much fun! I'm so glad that I gave it a try. I was considering just snowboarding and cross-country skiing until I got more of a chance to watch folks on the mountain. I still want to try a bunch of sports, but I do like skiing. Yay, new skills!
Experiece 3: the bad
Stupid Nico (the cat) snuck out of the door today as I was leaving for my lesson. It was cold and snowy today, so when I got home Nico was sad, but not only that. He was crying from the rafters of the storage shed. "Oh geez, I'll get you down (dummy)." So I climb up on the table, reach up, safely cradle him in my arms and how does he repay me? Appreciative purring? A caring look? NO! Clawing me in the face, of course. Right on the bridge of my nose. I'm lucky the little bugger didn't mangle one of my eyes. Then we get inside and he looks at me, walks to the food and cries some more. Who gives extra food (he already ate his fancy feast and apparently didn't want any of the 8 other kinds of food available) to a being that almost blinds her!? Not me.
