New Pictures!
First, here we have a couple pictures of my new apartment! Well, I took these before I moved in, so there is nothing inside. I'll have to take a few more shots of it with the new home-y look.
In apartment news, I have a roommate! Yay! Her name is Beth, and she is also a Michigander. It's nice to have someone else there instead of having a big echoing, empty room in the place. So far, so good. As for the apartment itself, things aren't quite as ship shape. The dishwasher doesn't drain properly, so we are going to get a new one sometime next week. And the plumber who came to fix the shower (no hot water pressure) fixed it up real good. Now no water at all flows. Dang it! Word is it will be actually fixed on Monday... after they tear the wall out of the bathroom... oy! What I am I going to do with the cats while the (probably toxic) building materials are spread hither and yon. Come to think of it, what about us humans!
As promised: Pictures of the kitties!!
Today, I went to the big downtown Portland farmers' market and got a haul of goodies! Check out the beets - I'm going to whip up some borsht soon. Yes, that is the explanation for the onions as well. I was excited to find some reasonably priced apple cider to which I can apply the mulling spices. The apples are a new variety to me, spitzenburg, which I sampled at the market. Raspberry jam with no sugar, loganberry vinegar, parsnips, celery and cabbage!
This picture is from my trip home. This really drove me crazy. I don't know how well you can tell what is going on in this picture. On the left, there is an aisle with red carpet laid down for the first class travelers. On the right is the plain aisle for the peasants (economy fliers) to use. These aisles are about 4 feet long and start and end in the exact same place. The red carpet serves no purpose apart from making first class customers feel special and economy customers getting a little foreshadowing about the miserable experience they are about to endure. Do first class customers really feel too good to walk down the same aisle as everyone else? Do they really want to pay double (at least) for THIS!?
Other stuff: I started taking guitar lessons again and got new strings! I have been knitting a lot, but haven't finished anything yet. I will post pictures when I do (unless it's a gift!).
